A new idea....as I was reading chapter 4 from the Sleeter and Grant book, I came across a new concept that I had never heard of before. This chapter talks about an idea called single group studies and focuses on just one group of people who they think are in need of some help. I think that this could be an interesting concept depending on how it is approached and how much people use it. I do feel though, that if it is used the focus should be on muliple groups all at once if they need it, instead of just one when there are more that need some help. I feel if there is a situation where there is just one group that is struggling more than others, it would be a good chance to get those children more up to speed and to be similar to those who are in the other groups that are not having as many problems. I think this somewhat goes along with the no child left behind theory because it is focusing on those students who are not as far along, but is trying to catch them up to the most of the children and where they are. I think this is an important thought because I believe that everyone should have the same chance to get a good education and be successful no matter what race, gender, or anything else you are. The book mentions that one of the negative sides to this approach is that it leaves the regular curriculum to be unreformed. However, I dont know if this would necessarily be that bad of an idea. I personally believe that not having this set curriculum to follow and allowing for some bending of the ideas and letting it flow to what the children need and at the pace that they are going with. If some children need to move at a slower level, then I believe as a teacher it is ok to do that and maybe not get through every little thing that day but instead having a child understand better. To me if that happens, then it is really worth it more than going fast and having some who are lost getting even farther behind to the point that they may give up completely which would be very sad to see. I think that this thought has some good points to it and could be very effective and make some progress as long as things are done in the right way and gets support from many people.
