is race real??? This was a very interesting article as well as a discussion for the class. I think that I have come to know this kind of thing as I was growing up. When I was in school we would do projects on our heritage and the background of our family. Because of my red hair and lighter complexion it was assumed by many that I was from an Irish background and so was my family. However, this was far from the truth. I do have a little bit of Irish in me, but not a lot. My mothers side of the family is all from Germany and we are not sure about my dads due to some different circumstances. However, many people are very shocked to find this out just because of how I look. Another thing that throws a wrinkle into it is the fact that no one, and I mean no one in my family has the same hair color as I do and there is no trace at all of it in any of them. Both of my parents have dark hair and so do my grandparents that we know as well as my younger brother. So, I also have a lighter skin tone than they do which makes me not look like them. Many many times I have gotten to hear about how I look nothing like my parents and how they all want to know where I got my hair color from and why I am so different. But the answer is that we have no idea and so I feel as though, like others in the class I have been exposed to it through my own situations becuase I am not like the rest of my family members. Coming from my perspective I know that race is very much out there no matter what age you are and who you are. I think that this article and the discussion were very relevant to my life and what I have been through.
